What is a Men’s Shed?

The aim of the Street & Walton Men's Shed is to promote Heath and Wellbeing in the community of Street, Walton and the surrounding area, to help reduce the feeling of loneliness and isolation encountered by older people in the community while giving the members a chance to learn new skills, teach others new skills and work on their projects or projects for the benefit of our community and all in a safe and friendly environment.

  • A Men’s Shed is a larger version of the typical man’s shed in the garden – a place where he feels at home and pursues practical interests with a high degree of autonomy.

  • A Men’s Shed offers this to a group of men and/or women, where members share the tools and resources they need to work on projects of their own choosing at their own pace and in a safe, friendly and inclusive venue.

  • They are places of skill-sharing and informal learning, of individual pursuits and community projects, of purpose, achievement and social interaction.

  • A place of leisure where men and women can come together to work and socialise.

Our Sponsors

The Street & Walton Men's Shed won the UK Men's Shed Association Health & Wellbeing Award at  Shedfest 2019,

11 members attended the Shedfest where we saw demonstrations of shedders work and a fantastic demonstration of wood turning by Chris Fisher the only registered Blind wood turner in the UK.

The shed was also runner up in the Shed of the Year (2019) award, the recognition by the national organisation is great praise for the shed members who had worked so hard to get the shed built and equipped over the past year.

Throughout the several lock downs over the last 2 years due to the Covid pandemic, the shed has managed to survive to grow even stronger, we have increased both male and female memberships and the shed sessions are well attended by up to 18 members a day. we have also up graded some of our tools and machines, particularly the wood and metal working lathes which have new tools and chisels for members to work with.

Along with many other sheds through out the area, we have joined with the Repair Cafés in Glastonbury and Compton Dundon to offer repairs to the public, so far we have repaired Garden tools and
furniture.

We are also selling member made items at a Craft fair in Glastonbury to help raise funds to improve the shed facilities.

Your Health & Safety our top priority.

All processes and machines are risk assessed and electrically PAT tested, we have comprehensive Equality & Diversity, Safe guarding and Data protection policies in place, in accordance with UK Men's Shed association code of best practice.

Each session has at least one First Aider in attendance, first aid kits and fire appliances are provided in each room.
